FAYETTE COUNTY, Pa. — A driver was able to walk away from a serious accident in Fayette County early Wednesday morning after losing control of his car and flying over a hillside.

Firefighters said the driver was traveling southbound on Route 119 in Connellsville just after midnight when he left the road, went down a steep embankment and the car caught fire.

According to emergency responders, the driver was able to call 911 from his cellphone and walked up the hillside for help.

The driver's mother told Channel 11 News that he was taken to Highlands Hospital to be treated for minor injuries and has since been released.

Witnesses said the driver took out over 50 feet of guide rail and traveled 50 to 60 feet down the hillside.
