NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A man is dead after being hit by a vehicle in New Castle on Sunday.
A Lawrence County 911 supervisor said the crash at Wilmington Road and Edison Avenue was reported at 6:30 p.m. One person was taken to a hospital from the scene.
New Castle Chief of Police Dave Cumo later confirmed to Channel 11 that the man died from his injuries. He has not been identified.
“Our hearts go out to this person and their family,” Cumo said.
New Castle police are investigating, assisted by the Pennsylvania State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialists unit.
New Castle police urged drivers to avoid the area, as the road was expected to be closed for “an extended period of time.”
The road was still blocked as of 9:30 p.m., dispatchers confirm.
Our crew on scene saw barricade tape up, a vehicle stopped in the roadway and a shopping cart and groceries strewn around.
