PITTSBURGH — Neighbors along Muskego Way on Mt. Washington say they’re counting their blessings after a dump truck rolled down their street and into a sinkhole.
It happened around 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
“If he hadn’t hit that hole, I was wondering, man, would it have gone through my house when I was sleeping?” said neighbor Michael Jones.
Pittsburgh Public Safety officials say that at approximately 1:45 am, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 3 responded to a reported rollover crash. Officials say preliminary information indicates a dump truck fell into a sinkhole and rolled onto its side. No injuries were reported.
Pittsburgh Water tells Channel 11: “Pittsburgh Water is aware of the incident that occurred in Mt. Washington while one of our contractors was responding to a water main break on Muskego Way last night. We are taking this event seriously as we work to understand what happened and how to prevent similar incidents in the future. No injuries have been reported, and water was restored shortly before 11:00 p.m. last night.”
Neighbors say they heard a commotion outside on their street early Tuesday morning but say they didn’t think much of the noise as they’ve had work on the street over the past few days.
“There’s just constantly clanging and banging and vibrating sounds and the house shaking; we were like, oh, whatever. We didn’t think much of it because it’s all been chaos,” said Max Kelley.
Neighbor Michael Jones said he knew something was wrong when he woke up for work at 3:00 Tuesday morning and saw his neighbors outside.
“I walked out, and I looked up the hill, and I said, ‘I guess I ain’t going to work tonight!’” said Jones.
After several hours, a private tow company was able to pull the dump truck out and onto Boggs Avenue. Traffic was temporarily suspended.
