WEST DEER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — An elderly man was killed early Sunday morning in a mobile home fire in West Deer Township.
Ernest Geer, 85, died of smoke inhalation after his Crestview Drive house caught fire, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.
Flames were reported shortly before 4:30 a.m.
Erron Brown, a neighbor, said he heard about the fire on his scanner and ran to try to help.
"I pounded on a window, ripped out some screens and kind of heard a pop. And then the window like immediately got hot and I didn't want to bust it out for my own safety," he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
