81-year-old man struck, killed by car in Penn Hills ID'd

PENN HILLS, Pa. — Authorities have identified the man who was struck and killed by a car Thursday night in Penn Hills.

The Allegheny County coroner said 81-year-old Edward Joyce was hit on Saltsburg Road near the Three Lakes Golf Course just before 6 p.m.

Joyce’s wife, Amelia Joyce, told Channel 11’s Dave Bondy that her husband would walk along the side of the road every day and pick up golf balls -- something she said he was doing at the time he was hit.

“We weren’t with him when the Lord took him. No one was there to hold his hand and tell him we love him. It really hurts,” Amelia Joyce said.

Amelia Joyce went onto say that her husband was a collector of everything from golf balls to figurines.

“He just loved collecting the golf balls. It didn’t matter if he sold them or not, he would give them away to family members or anybody that wanted them,” Amelia Joyce said.

Joyce said she wants her husband to be remembered as a funny, loving and caring man.

“He was a very passionate and very loving man. He would never say a bad word about anybody,” Joyce said.

According to police, a woman and her two children were in the car that hit Joyce. They stayed at the scene and talked to investigators.

The accident remains under investigation.
