MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — An elderly woman was rushed to the hospital Friday after she was thrown from her car along Pleasant Hills Road in Marshall Township.

Investigators said the woman, whose name has not been released, lost control of her Chevy Malibu, hit a pole and was thrown out of the passenger window.

“She came around the bend, didn’t make the bend and hit the pole,” witness Darryl Gonther said. “We pulled over to the side, walked down to her car and saw her laying in the street.”

“I asked her her name and if she was in pain,” Gonther said. “She told me her name and that her back hurt. She was talking, that was good.”

Gonther and other witnesses told Channel 11's Jodine Costanzo that they helped the woman while she was lying in the street until emergency crews arrived.

The woman was conscious, but had several cuts and bruises when she was flown to an area hospital. Her condition has not been released.

Investigators said the speed limit on the road is 35 mph, but they’re not sure if excessive speed played a role in the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
