Tuesday’s election could see big changes, with the House of Representatives shifting in power.
Democrats need to pick up a net of three seats to gain control. That could happen right here in Pennsylvania, with four big races in play.
Keeping a close eye on the First Congressional District, other side of state- Philly suburbs.
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick is a moderate Republican. He’s been able to do well in blue territory. Kamala Harris carried the district in 2024.
He’s going up against Bob Harvie, a former teacher and Bucks County commissioner
Cook Political Report has this race as a toss-up.
The next three districts are all leaning Democrat
Seventh district rep. Ryan Mackenzie in his first term is facing Bob Brooks. Mackenzie rode in on the red wave two years ago. Trump’s popularity has not held up in this area.
The same thing applies in the Eighth District, where another freshman republican, Rep. Rob Bresnahan, is trying to hold on against Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti.
Finally, the 10th district. Harrisburg area.
Scott Perry is seeking an eighth term. This is a rematch from 2024.
Perry narrowly defeated Janelle Stelson, a former TV journalist. But now she is polling ahead.
Analysts say this election will come down to the economy.
“I don’t care if you’re MAGA, progressive, whatever you are. That is a common denominator. How am I going to keep my lights on? How am I going to put food on the table for my children? How am I going to pay my health care bills? How can I afford health care?” former Pennsylvania Democratic Party chair Jim Burn said.
Republicans are still optimistic.
A spokesperson with the national Republican Congressional Committee said
“President Trump and House Republicans have been successful in Pennsylvania by being laser-focused on lowering costs, improving community safety, and strengthening American manufacturing.”
