NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A crash caused a large gas leak in New Castle, briefly causing evacuations for nearby residents.
The New Castle Police Department said the crash was in the area of Quality Life Services on Friendship Street. A Lawrence County 911 official says the single-vehicle crash took place around 5:40 p.m.
The official said the evacuation included buildings in at least a two-block radius around the nursing home.
A Columbia Gas official said the car crashed into the nursing home, damaging an outdoor gas meter.
Everyone was able to return home starting at 7 p.m. Roads have reopened.
Crews are working to repair the gas meter and expect service to be restored to the building later in the evening.
