PITTSBURGH — An ex-con is upset after he said he was fired after one day at a new job, despite doing nothing wrong.
Jayronn Fields admitted to Channel 11’s Vince Sims that he has a criminal background. Among past charges, Fields served two-and-a-half years in jail for gun possession.
Fields said now that he has served his time, he wants a real job.
“I’m out here trying to do positive things, so I feel if somebody is trying to do positive, why hold them back?” Fields said.
Fields said after fully disclosing his criminal background, he was placed by 3 Rivers Staffing in Tarentum with Tsudis Chocolate Company.
According to Fields, after he worked one day he asked Tsudis for information for his parole officer and he was fired.
“Then I got a call that I was fired because I wasn’t supposed to tell them I have a criminal background,” Fields said. “They put me there knowing that the company doesn’t take ex-cons, but they put me there anyway.”
A human resources officer from Tsudis would not say why Fields was fired, but said he’s, “doing some investigation and due-diligence into the staffing agency to see if policy and procedures were followed regarding background checks.”
An attorney for 3 Rivers Staffing said they are willing to work with Fields to place him with another company.
Fields also said 3 Rivers Staffing called him to say there was a misunderstanding and they will help him find another job.
“All I want is a paycheck. I want 8 hours, 40 hours per week. That’s it,” Fields said.
