BALDWIN, Pa. — It’s been nearly four months since McKeesport Police Officer Sean Sluganski was killed in the line of duty.
Wednesday evening, his family presented a scholarship in his honor at his alma mater, Baldwin High School.

Sluganski’s sisters, Shela Sluganski and Sarah Griener, told Channel 11 it’s been somewhat of a cathartic experience.
“It’s tough every day, but having these positive outlets is good for us,” Sluganski said.
“We’re getting through day by day. There are obviously days that are better than others, but this is a moment of light for us,” Griener said.

The moment of light came when presenting the scholarship to senior Emma Meyer. Meyer is headed to Arizona State to study forensic science.
“It definitely makes me want to make everyone proud and fill as big of shoes as he did,” Meyer said.
The sisters told Channel 11 the last few months have been difficult, but the support they’ve received has been immeasurable.
“Everyone is there for us no matter what we need. People reach out. People dropping off food - just having the support of people we know and people we don’t know,” Sluganski said.
The family is continuing to raise money for future scholarship awards, including Saturday at Baldwin’s Community Day. More information on that can be found here.
