The vigil also marked what would have been Karissa Kunco's 25th birthday.
Paul Kunco, the victim's father, told Channel 11 that his daughter's friends have formed a group called Karissa's Army, a group dedicated to spreading awareness about domestic violence.
Paul Kunco said the emotional vigil Friday night will provide comfort and strength for his family during a time when it will be needed.
That's because jury selection for Jordan Clemmons, the man accused of killing Karissa Kunco, is expected to take place next week.
Paul Kunco, who described his daughter as an “angel on Earth,” said he won’t waste time or energy thinking about the man who’s charged with killing his daughter more than three years ago.
“I don’t care about him,” Paul Kunco said. “We don’t dwell, we don’t talk about him. He means nothing.”
What Paul Kunco will remember is his daughter’s beaming smile and the legacy she left behind through her friends and family.
Paul Kunco added he takes comfort from the fact that she is in a better place.
“My daughter is now with God,” he said. “Nobody can hurt her.”
Paul Kunco said the jury selection process will be hard for his family, but they will get through it together.
