Family and friends gathered to remember a man who was shot and killed while working security at a local bar.
It happened last week at H’s Bar and Grill in Verona.
About 50 people gathered in Highland Park to honor the life of Ronel “Nell” Jones. Many released blue and white balloons.
Jones is remembered as a loving father, brother and friend. One woman told Channel 11 he’d been working security at the H’s for a “long time.”
Many of his co-workers attended. They wore blue and white shirts with his name on the back.
One made a statement on behalf of H’s, saying losing Nell is “losing a member of the family” and he will always “remain in our hearts.”
“[He meant] a lot. A lot to people. Another senseless crime that happened,” Nell’s friend Maurice told Channel 11. They’d known each other for more than a decade. “He’s a stand-up and very strong-willed person.”
According to Allegheny County Police, Jones was working security just before 11 p.m. last Thursday when he was shot.
He was found dead outside.
Police say he was speaking with another man when it happened.
“If you know any information, the best thing to do is come forward and talk. To the person, walk into one of [those] buildings and turn yourself in. That’s the only thing to do. That’s how we man up in the world,” Maurice said.
We did reach out to Allegheny County Police. We were told there are no updates and the investigation remains active.
