Family, friends remember teen killed by tree at Bible camp

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — On what would have been Lexi Turner’s 16th birthday, more than 150 people gathered at Beaver Falls High School Thursday for a party to celebrate her life.

“As I look out here, this is all an expression of love,” Turner’s mother, Brandine Fehir-Turner, said. “She had an amazing smile and heart. (She) loves her friends, always laughing and having fun.”

Turner was killed last month during a storm while away at Bible camp when a tree fell on her.

Fehir-Turner said her daughter dreamed of becoming a camp counselor. She recalled the last time she saw her daughter before she left for camp.

“She was looking forward to it, was pushing me out the door that day. As I dropped her off, she said, ‘Mom, I love you. Bye,’” Fehir-Turner said.

Sixteen balloons were released as Turner’s siblings and cousins sang her “Happy Birthday.”

Her brother also recorded her a song that he performed, and her grandmother read an entry Turner had written in her dairy.

In the entry, Turner laid out her faith in God and his plans for her: “Driving on the road to heaven since seven, at least I know I'm in the Lord’s hands, and one day he'll take me.”
