SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Students were evacuated at the Shaler Area Middle School on Wednesday morning after a fire alarm was triggered.
Crews were called to the school at 1800 Mount Royal around 8:45 a.m.
The school district said preliminary assessments suggest the alarm may have been caused by a sensor triggered by the heavy rainfall, along with dust from work being conducted on the roof.
Crews were able to do an initial exterior and interior sweep and cleared the building for students and staff to reenter the gymnasium.
The building has since been fully cleared, and school has returned to normal operations.
“Families have been advised, and all students and staff are safe and accounted for. The safety and well-being of our school community remain our highest priorities, and our established emergency protocols were followed precisely and efficiently,” the district said.
