DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A fire late Sunday night destroyed Lucky B’s American Grill in Latrobe.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 11:40 p.m.
“It was about 11/12 p.m. I was just about to head to bed, playing some video games. My neighbor knocks on the door and I’m like ‘what’s this guy doing? It better be good.’ I open it; nobody’s there. Then I hear “fire!’” I look down the hall, it was all smoke, because it was coming from the one side,” said Tisaiah Frei, who lives in one of the three apartments upstairs.
All four people who live in the three apartments upstairs were able to get out without getting hurt.
“Everything’s destroyed, which sucks,” Frei told Channel 11’s Andrew Havranek. “I thought we could recuperate some stuff, but no. This side got real messed up as I was walking through, but we’re all here.”
Anthony Wing, one of the owners of the bar, told Channel 11 the bar closed at 5 p.m. Sunday because of the snowstorm.
“I have a friend who is a fireman in South Greensburg and apparently it must’ve come across the radio, and he called the house and let me know it was on fire,” Wing said.
He didn’t want to go on camera, but talked to Channel 11 about the damage.
“The damage is extensively through the ceilings. The walls are solid concrete, so the whole building pretty much acted like a chimney,” he said. “The ceilings, the wiring, the plumbing all of that stuff is pretty much gone, equipment, things of that nature.”
Right now, Wing said he’s worried about his employees.
“Our biggest worry was our employees to make sure that they’re placed, or they have something they can fall back on,” Wing said. “We have roughly 25 employees that work for us and they all rely on this for their check.”
The tenants said they were told to reach out to the Red Cross.
The owners said right now they are looking at potentially re-opening but they said they want to go through the whole insurance process first to see what’s possible.
