WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — Firefighters battled a large fire at an apartment building in Roscoe, Washington County early Thursday morning.

Channel 11's Lori Houy spoke to a couple who said they were awakened by the sound of smoke detectors and immediately jumped into action to alert their neighbors.

"I noticed there was smoking coming from one of the apartments up there.  So I started banging on doors trying to tell everybody to get out and the fire company was here in a matter of minutes," said Roger Koskoski.

Firefighters said no injuries were reported but at least one pet was killed.  A dog was rescued from the apartment where the fire originated, firefighters said, and a paramedic was able to resuscitate it.

"I looked up and seen a red glow coming from the ceiling and I just called 911 and he ran up and got everybody out," Tina Koskoski said.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
