BALDWIN, Pa. — Part of Brownsville Road in Baldwin is closed while crews battle a fire at a business.

Allegheny County 911 confirms to Channel 11 that firefighters were called to the 5100 block of Brownsville Road around 12:30 p.m.

Video shared with Channel 11 showed an auto body shop, Davis Auto Sales and Service, fully engulfed in flames. Thick, white smoke was also filling the air.

Another video from when the flames subsided shows the building was destroyed.

Baldwin Fire Company says the building was already starting to collapse by the time firefighters got on scene.

“Within about 15 minutes, the whole place was engulfed. It was awful. The smoke was way up in the sky,” witness Brian Pope said.

Brian Pope was eating at the Loose Moose Restaurant around noon today when he saw employees outside of Davis Auto running around with a fire extinguisher.

“All of the sudden, the fire just started shooting through the garage and then they ran off and then before you know it, it was engulfing the whole garage,” Pope said.

He says firefighters were here within minutes - working to get the massive flames and smoke under control. Witnesses heard explosions.

“A bunch of popping and you saw a bunch of sparking. I was concerned that it would spread with the wind but more or less the explosions that were happening,” Tiffany Colaizzi said.

“We just moved to the far side of the building starting to worry about the windows themselves exploding,” Pope added.

Brownsville Road was shut down for several hours while dozens of firefighters worked to get the fire under control.

At this time, there are no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
