ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle launched a new personal shopping service at its Robinson Township location on Monday.
Curbside Express is now available at the Market District store, allowing customers to order their groceries online then pick them up at the front of the store.
Giant Eagle officials said employees will act as personal shoppers and will bring completed orders to an outside pickup vehicle lane so customers do not need to enter the store to get their groceries.
The fee for the service is $4.95. Customers are able to place their first order for free.
"Market District's Curbside Express makes grocery shopping more convenient than ever for our time-pressed customers," said Senior Vice President of Marketing and Own Brands Lisa Henriksen. "Building on the popularity of our Giant Eagle mobile app and eOffers digital coupons, Curbside Express brings grocery shopping to your nearest desktop, or even to the palm of your hand."
Henriksen said customers can choose from thousands of items the same way one would in the store, and they can even provide product preferences.
There is no difference in pricing between items chosen online via Curbside Express and those chosen by customers in-store.
To ensure customers are getting the most current offers and specials, product prices are based on the date of the order's pickup. In addition, just as if customers were making the purchases themselves, fuelperks! and foodperks! rewards can still be earned and redeemed on all qualifying items. Pickup times can be scheduled seven days a week, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
“I have two children and I think something like this is every mother’s dream come true,” Sara Diamond said. “It saved me probably 2 1/2 hours today. We were about to go to the toy store. We were able to go to the park. So we were able to do a lot of things and not waste time shopping.”
Giant Eagle officials said the curbside service is only available at the Robinson store, but if it tests well, it could expand to other stores.
