MARION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 19-year-old woman was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital late Wednesday morning after she was hit by a falling log in Beaver County, according to Marion Township Police Chief Rudy Harkins.
“It's my understanding the log was 3 feet long, weighed about 50 pounds and it fell 30 feet to the ground below, hitting her on the head,” Harkins said.

The log hit the woman, who works for Marshall Tree Experts, a tree-cutting company based in Ellwood City, while crews were cutting a tree at a home on Chapel Drive.
Harkins said the 19-year-old, whose name has not been released, was knocked unconscious, and three to four other employees, including her brother, called 911 for help.
The police chief told Channel 11 that the woman was wearing a helmet but had a serious cut, along with trauma to her head.
“We had to set up a landing site, and a medical helicopter took her down to Pittsburgh,” Harkins said.
Marshall Tree Experts, which has been in business since the ‘70s, hasn’t had any workplace violations.
Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz reported that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be called to investigate the incident.
An employee told Marcinkiewicz that he received word from Marshall Tree Experts’ owner that while the woman suffered serious injuries, she was conscious after being taken to the hospital.
