Grandmother of 22-year-old killed in hit-and-run in McKeesport speaks out about the accident

MCKEESPORT — Twenty-two-year-old John Mays was killed in a hit-and-run incident in McKeesport. The person responsible is not behind bars.

His grandmother, Audrey Hall, lives just a few feet away from where he was killed. She is asking for something to be done.

“It’s not fair to me. My grandson, that I loved so much is taken from this earth,” said Hall.

Police say that 19-year-old Hanna Frank was the driver. She is believed to have struck Mays and fled the scene on May 14, and was later found in Turtle Creek.

“I just want someone to do something, not let her get off. Yeah, she’s only 19, but when you get behind that wheel you have to be aware of your surroundings,” said Hall.

Frank is facing multiple charges following the incident, but Hall believes that the driver should not be free until her next court appearance.

“I don’t feel like she should be out walking around when my grandson is gone,” said Hall.

Court documents say that Frank initially told police that she was at work and someone hit her car, but later admitted to hitting something in the intersection and said she was too afraid to stop and check
