GREENE COUNTY, Pa. — A family from Greene County said its cat was shot in close range by a neighbor and police have video of it.
The cat named Squidward is in an animal hospital's intensive care unit sedated with pain medication.
X-rays show a trail of lead throughout the cat's body. Doctors said the bullet was likely fired from a handgun.
"This cat is pretty lucky. To go through and through like that and not hit anything important … If it had just been another inch higher, it would have gone through his chest and we wouldn't be talking right now," Dr. John Payne said to Channel 11 reporter Courtney Brennan.
The family brought the cat to hospital Sunday night. An 8-year-old with autism named the cat Squidward and is devastated.
The cat will have to undergo 10-12 weeks of rehabilitation.
The family created a GoFundMe page with hopes of raising money to help pay for Squidward's care. Click here if you would like to donate.
