Gun recovered after man drives away during traffic stop in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — A man crashed into a telephone pole after driving away during a traffic stop early Thursday morning in Pittsburgh's Knoxville neighborhood.

According to police, the driver, Ian Watson, was stopped just after 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Charles Street and Ibis Way. However, Watson refused to shut off the vehicle and drove off when an officer noticed a gun in the vehicle.

Police said Watson was followed by officers through two intersections before he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the pole at the intersection of Ibis Way and Bausman Street.

Watson was arrested and police recovered the gun, as well as ammunition. Watson is charged with eluding police and a gun violation.
