Guns held by teens in widely shared video are toys, police say

PITTSBURGH — A video posted on social media caused some scary moments in a Pittsburgh neighborhood on Thursday evening.

The video shows a group of teens walking through Sheraden carrying what appears to be guns.

Zone 6 Commander Ray Rippole tells Channel 11 he got multiple calls from concerned residents and began looking into the video. He says officers eventually tracked the kids down and determined that the guns seen in the video were toys.

Rippole says officers spoke with the mother of one of the kids and told her about the potential dangers. She reportedly said her older son was supposed to be watching him while she was working.

The mother said she plans to destroy the toy guns.
