The WPXI Holiday Parade Presented by Pittsburgh Public Schools is thrilled to announce the return of the world famous Harlem Globetrotters to the Parade! The world famous Harlem Globetrotters have been thrilling families and millions of fans for 88 years, all the while innovating the game in exciting new ways. They are an exhibition basketball team that combines theater, comedy and athleticism to the show.
In this year’s parade, two of the Globetrotters’ best will be joining Pittsburgh’s parade. The first hoop-star is Firefly Fisher. Fisher, a Kingston, New York-native, grew up loving the New York Knicks. Watching the Knicks drove Fisher’s love for basketball though the roof. He gained incredible basketball skills due to his driveway as a kid. It was full of rocks, so the rocky driveway helped his handling skills immensely. Fisher played basketball at Siena College in New York, which helped him hone his craft, before joining the Globetrotters in 2008.
Joining Fisher is his teammate, Stretch Middleton. His name certainly does him justice, because Middleton is listed as 7’4”, the third-tallest player in Globetrotter’s history. He graduated from Northwood University in 2009. In his two years at Northwood, Middleton led the Seahawks to 54 victories, and back-to-back Sun conference regular season championships. There’s also one thing Middleton and Shaquille O’Neal have in common. Both men shattered the backboard while dunking a basketball in 2012.
