PITTSBURGH — On opposite sides of a city court sit two families.
“She needs to face the music, she’s a mom she should know what it feels like for me to lose my son,” said Preeti Tuli.
Tuli has waited for Chayla Robinson’s hearing for nearly a year. Robinson is accused of driving the getaway car with Howard Hawkins, the shooter, inside. The victim who died just one year ago yesterday was Tuli’s 18-year-old son Ahmir.
“I’ve lost so much. It’s hard going home to an empty house all the memories with everything,” Tuli said.
While Robinson’s attorney fought to get her charge dropped, the prosecution said she visited Hawkins in the state of California while he was wanted for murder, proving she did in fact hide the suspect from police.
Now her case heads to trial, and Tuli plans to continue sharing her love for her son.
“He had the world ahead of him very bright very loyal, handsome a hard worker. He was my best friend,” Tuli said.
Hawkins will be back in court Thursday for a status hearing on his charges. His jury trial is expected to take place next month.
