Here’s how investor-owned home purchases are trending in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — The percentage of investor-purchased homes in Pittsburgh has decreased since the first quarter of 2025, but has avoided the worst compared to other U.S. regions.

That’s according to a recent Business Journals analysis of loan origination data from property data provider ATTOM, which showed that nationally, institutional investors purchased 6.6% of homes in the first quarter, down from 6.8% during the same time last year.

In Pittsburgh in 2026, 5.5% of first-quarter home sales were to institutional investors, down from 5.9% in the first quarter of 2025.

Across the political spectrum, experts have expressed alarm over ever-increasing housing costs and a noted shortage of starter homes available for purchase, with investor activity often a target of criticism.
