Homicide charges filed in shooting death of man found inside vehicle in Murrysville

MURRYSVILLE, Pa. — A 42-year-old Braddock man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting in Murrysville.

Nelson Hill was charged with criminal homicide and possession of a prohibited firearm following an investigation by Murrysville Police, the Westmoreland County Detective Bureau and the District Attorney’s Office into the incident.

Officers originally responded on Oct. 25 to Sardis Road near Cole Road, where they found Adam Carter inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. Carter was transported to a local hospital, where he died three days later.

Around the same time, police received reports of shots fired near Evergreen Drive and a man knocking on doors asking for a ride near Roundtop Road. Officers located Hill standing near Pleasant Valley Road and Roundtop Road, where he attempted to run before police arrested him.

According to detectives, Hill, Carter and two other men spent the evening of Oct. 25 visiting several bars in the Braddock area before traveling to a club in Jeannette for a short time. As the four men were driving through Murrysville, an argument broke out inside the vehicle.

Police said Hill became irate and pulled a gun on the other three occupants. Detectives reported that Hill pointed the gun at everyone inside the car before firing a single shot that struck Carter in the head. Hill then jumped out of the vehicle, ran into a wooded area and reportedly fired four to five more rounds.

Murrysville Police and a K-9 officer located a semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine in the wooded area near where Hill exited the car. Investigators also found a baseball hat consistent with the one Hill wore that evening. Additionally, detectives reviewed surveillance video from the Jeannette club, which showed Hill pointing a pistol at another patron following an argument earlier in the night.

Beyond the homicide and illegal gun possession counts, Hill faces charges of drug possession, evading arrest, resisting arrest and public drunkenness.
