BETHEL PARK, Pa. — An 8-year-old local boy who bravely fought an inoperable brain tumor was laid to rest Monday with a full police funeral.

Joey Fabus won the hearts of Pittsburgh and the country when he was sworn in as an honorary Bethel Park police officer last summer.

Joey passed away last Wednesday. His father said he was surrounded by his family and fought until his last breath.

"Some of his last words to me were, 'Will I get Better?' At that moment I knew he would be gone soon and the only thing I could tell him was 'Joe, you’ll be better than all of us!' And now he is, he’s having the time of his life with the sister and grandparents he only knew by pictures we showed him, stories we told him, by the personal traits he saw in everyone who knew them and by what we talked about them all as he helped me rebuild and flower their gravesites."

Supporters of Joey lined the streets and officers from across Western Pennsylvania attended his funeral.

Joey is survived by many family members, including his parents and his two brothers and two sisters.
