WAYNESBURG, Pa. — A horse was abused and abandoned near an auction site in Greene County.

Humane officers said the horse would have been in agony during the last few hours of its life, and the Humane Society wants to know who left the animal to die.

Officers were called to rescue the horse last week near a Waynesburg livestock auction, where the animal, enduring severe pain, had been trying to stand up.

Humane Officer Derek Foreman said a shocked crowd gathered around the dying, bruise-covered horse.

Investigators said the owner had tried to sell the horse for auction Thursday but left the animal on the edge of the property after it was rejected.

The auction site doesn’t have any paperwork on the owner, because he or she was turned away.

“I think someone at the auction saw this happen and knows who did it, and I wish they'd come forward,” said Foreman.

When found, the owner of the horse will face animal cruelty charges.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Greene County Humane Society.
