PITTSBURGH — A house caught fire in Pittsburgh’s Upper Hill neighborhood and spread to a neighboring home on Wednesday morning.

At around 7 a.m., firefighters were called to the 3300 block of Webster Avenue.

When crews arrived, flames were coming from the third floor of the home where the fire originated. It then spread to the third floor of the home next door.

Residents Benjamin and Charlene Wormesby said they quickly evacuated after noticing flames in their neighbor’s house.

“When we looked up, it was like, okay, get my grandbaby out the house, everybody out the house,” Benjamin Wormesby said.

The couple, who have lived in their home for 37 years, said their house has water and smoke damage.

Friend Trudy Evans said she rushed to the scene after hearing about the fire.

“On my way over here, and I saw all these fire trucks, I was tearing up because it was Char,” Evans said. “But when I saw Char, she was okay. So now I’m okay knowing that she’s okay.”

Battalion Chief Ed Farley said everyone who lived in the homes got out safely, though one firefighter suffered a knee injury.

“I did have a firefighter twist his knee. He’s being evaluated right now, but he seems to be fine,” Farley said.

Three people who lived in the home where the fire originated are now displaced.

Despite the damage to their home, the Wormesbys said they have no plans to leave.

“We’re not going to move. That’s for damn sure,” Benjamin Wormesby said with a laugh.

Charlene Wormesby said she is grateful no one was seriously hurt.

“There’s a lot of water damage and smoke damage. But everybody’s okay. That’s all that counts,” she said.

The fire was put under control around 7:30 a.m. The fire is now under investigation.
