Husband, wife found dead in apparent murder-suicide ID'd; Autopsies scheduled

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — Authorities have identified a married couple who was found dead inside their North Versailles home Tuesday morning in what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide.

Allegheny County homicide detectives said the bodies of 45-year-old Erin Hoey and 48-year-old Mark Hoey were found in the early morning hours inside a home on Thomas Avenue after one of them didn't show up for work, prompting someone to check on them.

"We got a call this morning that a person had not shown up for work.  We came over to check and see if the person was here and had to make forced entry into the house,” North Versailles Police Chief Vincent Dicenzo Jr. said.

Investigators haven’t said how they were killed, who killed whom, or why.

Jacky Orick, who lives across the street from the home, told Sims that she was shocked to learn the Hoeys died in an apparent murder-suicide.

“They were nice people, just real friendly,” Orick said. “It’s shocking. Shocking. We just wouldn’t expect it.”

Neighbors said they haven’t seen the Hoeys since Monday.

“I just noticed yesterday that the car hadn’t moved. I didn’t know if they were away or he was sick,” Orick said.

Overall, neighbors described the Hoeys as average, everyday friendly neighbors.
