Officers returned fire as the man tried to get away, and he surrendered shortly afterward, police say.

Preliminary investigations show the woman’s dog was shot. It is being treated for critical injuries, police say.

The woman suffered injuries to her face during the assault, police say. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Before officers arrived, an employee at a nearby business reportedly confronted the suspect, who shot once toward the employee, police say.

No other injuries were reported.
