Allegheny County police say Pittsburgh officers were called to the 4700 block of Centre Avenue around 4:12 p.m. for reports of an ongoing assault with a weapon.

Officers arrived to find a man outside an apartment building threatening a woman and her dog with a gun, police say. Officers told the man to drop the gun, but he fired multiple times at the woman and her dog.

Officers returned fire as the man tried to get away, and he surrendered shortly afterward, police say. The Allegheny County Police Department later identifed him as Lamar Reddick, 38.

A criminal complaint reveals the woman’s dog was shot twice, once in the neck and once in the leg. It later died at an area veterinarian’s office.

The woman suffered injuries to her face during the assault, police say. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

ACPD also learned that before officers arrived, an employee at a nearby business reportedly confronted Reddick, who shot once toward the employee, police say.

Reddick is now being held in the Allegheny County Jail on multiple charges, including criminal attempted homicide, three counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and aggravated cruelty to an animal.

No other injuries were reported.
