Man in critical condition after being shot in Northview Heights

PITTSBURGH — A man is in critical condition after he was shot inside a Pittsburgh home.

Initially, a Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson confirms to Channel 11 that first responders were called to Hazlett Street, within the Northview Heights housing complex, for a reported shooting around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

An Allegheny County 911 dispatcher said that one person was taken to a hospital from the scene.

The spokesperson later added that when first responders got on scene, they found a man shot in the upper back and groin inside a residence. EMS provided “advanced life care,” including giving the victim whole blood in the field, before taking him to a hospital. He was last said to be in critical condition.

The spokesperson says this was an “isolated incident” and there’s no threat to the community.

Neighbors described witnesses a chaotic situation after the gunfire.

“My little cousin heard gunshots ring out and we all scattered around and we all came out afterward and they were clearing the scene and telling us someone had been shot and shots had been fired,” one woman told Channel 11. “So a lot of people were scrambling, grabbing their kids and going into houses and moving people in different directions.”

Homicide detectives and the Mobile Crime Unit responded to process the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
