PITTSBURGH — A woman died and another woman was seriously hurt in a crash involving three cars on Pittsburgh’s South Side on Monday afternoon.

Dispatchers tell Channel 11 that fire, police and medics were called to the 3600 block of East Carson Street around 12:45 p.m.

An SUV ended up over a hillside and a truck landed on its roof.

The driver of the SUV is in serious condition, police said.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at a local hospital. She was later identified as Mary Alice Bendick, 60, of White Oak, by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.

A third car was involved, but police said it sustained minor damage and the driver was not hurt.

The Accident Investigation unit was called to the scene.

East Carson Street was shut down in both directions but reopened just before 4 p.m.
