PITTSBURGH — Light of Life has launched its Operation Winter Warmth clothing drive, aiming to collect 2,500 coats by Dec. 18 to assist Pittsburgh residents in need during the cold weather months.
The nonprofit organization plans to distribute at least 700 of the collected coats on Thanksgiving Day during its annual holiday meal outreach at the Voeghtly Street Shelter.
Donations of new or gently used coats, hats, gloves and hand warmers are being accepted at the Light of Life Outreach Center, located at 720 E. Lacock St.
Collection hours run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and after-hours donation bins are situated in front of the building.
Jerrel Gilliam, executive director of Light of Life, highlighted the community effort behind the drive.
“Operation Winter Warmth gives our community a chance to come together and make a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors experiencing homelessness during a season of giving,” Gilliam said. “Every item donated protects someone from the harsh Pittsburgh winter and reminds them that they are not forgotten.”
Light of Life is a Christian nonprofit organization that provides recovery programs, food and shelter. The mission operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is funded primarily through private donations.
