PENN HILLS, Pa. — Lithium-ion batteries are being blamed for a fire in a garbage truck Friday morning.
Emergency crews were alerted to the fire at Sehnandoah and Everglade drives at 10:30 a.m., according to Penn Hills No. 7 Volunteer Fire Co.
A garbage truck in the area had dumped its load, which was on fire in the street.
Crews began extinguishing the fire, with more fire companies arriving to help.
No injuries were reported, and the incident was over after about 30 minutes.
Penn Hills No. 7 VFC says the fire is believed to have been caused by improperly disposed lithium-ion batteries.
The truck’s owner estimates the site will be cleaned up by 1 p.m.
