Local developer who helped design PNC Park, Heinz Field dies in bike crash

PITTSBURGH — A local real estate developer who played a role in designing several landmarks in Pittsburgh, including PNC Park, Heinz Field and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, died Saturday.

According to Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLIVE, Marck Schneider, 55, died in a bike crash Saturday night near Frederick, Md.

Officials with Schneider's firm, Fourth River Development, have confirmed his death but say few details about his accident in western Maryland are known. Schneider was on a bicycle trip with his son, Max, when he had an accident near Thurmont, Md. on Saturday. Schneider died at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore on Sunday afternoon.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Schneider pushed for the stadium development as chairman of the city-county Sports & Exhibition Authority and is well-known for his work on other landscape-changing projects in Pittsburgh including Summerset, an upscale housing development built on a former slag heap.
