NORTH FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 20-year-old North Franklin Township firefighter was on a call Monday for a downed tree when a speeding driver hit him and took off. Police are looking for that driver, while that firefighter is thankful to be alive.

Logan Lilley is in disbelief that he walked away with only minor injuries after being hit by a speeding car.

“I probably shouldn’t be standing with how fast he hit me,” Lilley said.

Monday evening, Lilley and three other North Franklin Township firefighters were on a call for a tree down along Route 40.

“It’s one of those really dangerous calls. The highway is dangerous, even back roads are dangerous with all the bends, and people don’t like to slow down,” he said.

Lilley was directing traffic when he heard screeching tires. He says a man driving a white Kia was flying around the corner headed in Lilley’s direction.

“He came towards me. (I) ran towards the guardrail, and I jumped at the last second. I nicked the front of the hood with my boot. Got thrown over the guardrail, hand got slammed into the guardrail and I landed about 5 feet behind the guardrail and just laid there, and the gentleman unfortunately took off from us.”

Witnesses say that the driver put his car into reverse and sped away.

“We’re guessing right around 55 mph is when I got hit, and I’ve been told a lot of people don’t make it at 30-40 miles per hour,” Lilley said.

Lilley was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for some cuts and sprains to his hand and legs.

“You could’ve went home in a casket instead of just to the hospital and being released later. I have angel wings tatted on my back, so I go with I had an angel with me that day, and for being a pretty religious person, I think God was definitely there for me,” he said.

Firefighters are hoping this incident is a wake-up call for drivers to slow down. State Police continue to search for the hit-and-run driver.
