Local man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend arrested after 10 months on the run, sheriff says

SHERADEN, Pa. — A local man wanted for nearly a year was arrested by the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Stuvaints, 26, of Sheraden, had been a fugitive since October after Pittsburgh police charged him with violently assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Sheriff Kevin Kraus’ office says.

Stuvaints faced charges of simple assault, strangulation and terroristic threats after police allege he went into his ex’s house, threw her to the floor, beat her and grabbed her throat.

Police found Stuvaints near the apartment shortly afterward, but he was able to escape, officials say.

Stuvaints reportedly had another arrest warrant out of Mount Oliver on a gun charge and for resisting arrest.

This week, the sheriff’s office learned that Stuvaints was in a home along Allendorf Street in Sheraden.

Detectives announced themselves and went to the door Thursday. When Stuvaints opened it, officials say, he was arrested and later taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
