Local police department warns of scammers impersonating Duquesne Light Company

CRAFTON, Pa. — A local police department says scammers are now impersonating Duquesne Light Company.

According to information shared by the Crafton Borough Police Department on Wednesday, residents and business owners are reporting receiving suspicious calls.

Reports say the caller claims to be from Duquesne Light Company and tells the recipient their bill needs to be paid immediately, otherwise their electricity will be shut off.

“This is a scam and a way of trying to obtain your personal information. Utility companies do not operate like this to collect on delinquent accounts,” a spokesperson for the department said.

They added the caller also asks for personal information.

Police urge anyone who receives a call like this to hang up and check the status of their bill by calling the Duquesne Light Company Service number on their usual bill, or by checking the website.

Channel 11 has reached out to Duquesne Light Company for comment and is waiting to hear back.
