Local school districts receive grants from Pittsburgh Steelers, NFL to expand athletic facilities

PITTSBURGH — Two local school districts are receiving funds to improve their athletic facilities thanks to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFL.

Frazier School District and California Area School District have received grants through the NFL Foundation – LISC Grassroots Field Grant Program in partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

At Frazier High School, the funding will support a project that will renovate the existing natural grass stadium field used by students and youth athletes.

At California Area High School, new bleachers will upgrade facility safety, accessibility and seating capacity for spectators.

Dan Rooney, Steelers vice president of strategy, highlighted the importance of high school athletics to the local community.

“Football is an important part of our community’s culture and we want young athletes across our region to have the opportunity to experience the energy, passion and unforgettable moments that make the game so special,” Rooney said.

The Grassroots Field Grant Program represents a long-standing national effort between the league’s charitable arm and LISC.

Over nearly three decades, the partnership has distributed more than $70 million to community organizations and schools across the country, funding the construction or refurbishment of nearly 500 fields nationwide.
