PITTSBURGH — Fans of the rapper and Pittsburgh native Mac Miller gathered Saturday to celebrate his life and legacy.
The eighth annual “Celebration of Mac” began at the iconic “Blue Slide Park” in Squirrel Hill and continued with an afterparty.
Mac Miller, who grew up in Point Breeze, died Sept. 7, 2018, at the age of 26. The namesake of his debut album, “Blue Slide Park” has been a destination for fans ever since.
Organizers of Saturday’s event say it’s a heartfelt tribute to the artist — born Malcolm James McCormick — and demonstrates the unity his music created.
“It’s cool to see how much people still love him even though he’s gone. So I just come to see the legacy,” one fan, Rachel Wilber, said.
Attendees told us it speaks to Mac Miller’s music and its impact that crowds still show up for the gathering each year.
