UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Southwest Regional Police Department officers have identified a 22-year-old man they say posed as an officer in Union Township earlier this year.
According to police, Vincent Ambrosy posed as a Southwest Regional police officer and made an illegal traffic stop on Route 837 in May.
“He confessed to us that this is what in fact had happened. He’d come in the car that he actually used to make the stops, so now we have possession of the car,” Southwest Regional Police Chief John Hartman said.
“He suffers from depression and bipolar syndrome. He is not currently on his medication because of this wonderful system, we’ve lost his medical,” Ambrosy’s mother said.
Ambrosy’s mother defended her son and said she was upset about his arrest.
Officials said Ambrosy, of Charleroi, is a former volunteer firefighter with the Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department.
Ambrosy is facing charges of unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, impersonating a public servant and harassment.
“I think it’s uncalled for,” Ambrosy said in regards to his $50,000 bail. “Looks like I’m going to jail unless I can get $50,000.”
