A man accused of raping an unconscious woman on Pittsburgh’s South Side was taken into custody in New York City on Thursday, 11 Investigates first confirmed.
Public Safety officials said that Pittsburgh Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit and Special Victims Unit detectives, with the assistance of the NYPD Staten Island Warrant Squad, found Larry Pappy Johnson in Staten Island and took him into custody without incident.
Pittsburgh police detectives have been searching for Johnson after police say he dragged an unconscious woman into a parking lot off South 14th Street. According to investigators, surveillance cameras show Johnson raping the woman, stealing her purse and leaving her there naked.
The woman told police that she remembers having a drink, then waking up in the hospital with barely any recollection of the time in between.
Over the past few days, Johnson appears to have made several social media posts. In one of them, he’s singing to the camera. In another, he’s dancing in front of a mirror.
Channel 11 looked into his criminal history and uncovered that Johnson was charged with attempted homicide in 2019 for a stabbing in the South Side.
Johnson is now facing charges of rape, sexual assault, robbery, false imprisonment, indecent assault, indecent exposure and harassment.
We’re working to find out more about Johnson’s arrest and when he will be brought back to Pittsburgh.
