Man arrested after SWAT situation in Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. — A man was arrested after a SWAT situation in Greensburg early Thursday morning.

The City of Greensburg Police Department said an arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 11 for Tyler Schultheis in connection with serious domestic violence charges, including aggravated assault, strangulation, terroristic threats and unlawful restraint.

Schultheis was alleged to have made threats to harm law enforcement officers if they attempted to arrest him at his home, which prompted the Westmoreland County SWAT team was activated.

The SWAT team got to Schultheis’ home at 521 Perry Avenue at 6:20 a.m. on Dec. 12. He refused to answer his phone or comply with officers’ request to exit the house, police said.

After hours of non-compliance, tear gas was deployed, but Schultheis still did not respond, police said.

According to police, the SWAT team gained entry to the house and found Schultheis hiding in a second-floor closet. He was taken into custody at around 11 a.m.

Schultheis is still in custody and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
