HOMESTEAD, Pa. — A man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly placing items on railroad tracks in Homestead.
According to the criminal complaint, an officer was crossing the railroad tracks when he noticed a struggle between two men.

One of the men flagged the officer down and said that the other man, later identified as Bernard Marshalek, was placing items on the railroad tracks.

The witness said that when he saw a “train go by and hit the items the man placed on the tracks it sounded like an explosion and debris went flying everywhere.”
Marshalek was taken into custody and taken to West Homestead for holding.
According to the criminal complaint, there was a long stretch of tracks with broken concrete pieces and a piece of rail in between the tracks.
CSX railroad police were notified of the incident and said there had been several incidents of the same nature that they are investigating. Marshalek allegedly admitted to his involvement in placing the items on the tracks.
A special agent from CSX police said the items on the tracks were capable of derailing a train.
Marshalek is being charged with aggravated assault, causing or risking catastrophe, recklessly endangering another person, railroad vandalism and interference and other charges.
