PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are investigating after an overnight shooting on the South Side.

According to a social media post, police responded to a shots fired call at 4 a.m. Saturday, near the intersection of S 17th Street and East Carson Street.

A male ran into the Cambod-Ican Kitchen restaurant to call 911 and take cover when he was struck in the leg by a stray bullet. Owners of the restaurant told Channel 11 that the victim was hit in an artery in his leg as the shooter shot into the establishment.

Owners also said there were between 15 and 20 customers in the restaurant at the time of the shooting. Six bullet holes were seen on the property.

“Our one friend went out. He said he saw like six guys with guns come back in called 911 and told the 911 operator that said you need to get somebody down here. Something’s about to go down. You need to have somebody here quickly. Well within, I would say 10 minutes after that. He was laying on the floor in the dining room blood gushing,” said Daniel McSwiggen, the owner of the restaurant.

The shooting in Pittsburgh’s South Side came just after city officials announced that they would be increasing police presence in the area in an attempt to lower the levels of gun violence happening there.

McSwiggen said a customer inside the restaurant called 911 before any shots were fired but that officers did not arrive to the scene until the second call was made.

“I would like to see them place less importance on tagging and towing customers’ vehicles on Carson street and get us more police protection done here,” said McSwiggen,

The victim is said to be in critical condition.

Police believe the suspect was driving a white Chevy Malibu.
