PITTSBURGH — A man convicted of attacking a bicyclist on the South Side nearly two years ago was sentenced Thursday to seven to 14 years in prison.
Channel 11's Brandon Hudson was there as an Allegheny County judge gave Anthony Scholl his punishment. He could have gotten 20 to 40 years in prison.
Scholl, whose taped confession helped convict him in March, admitted to slashing Colin Albright’s throat in September 2012 because voices in his head told him to do so.
Scholl also will spend 27 years on probation once he's released from prison to ensure he gets the treatment he needs for his mental illness, Common Pleas Judge Edward Borkowski ordered.
Albright spoke on behalf of his attacker during the sentencing hearing and hugged members of Scholl's family afterward. He previously said he took no solace in seeing a man taken away from his family.
