Woman charged in stabbing of McKees Rocks man

McKEES ROCKS, Pa. — A 56-year-old man remains hospitalized in critical condition after officers found him with stab wounds to the stomach and neck late Wednesday night in McKees Rocks.

According to the criminal complaint, a neighbor called police when James Sappie showed up at their front door about 11 p.m.

Police said when officers responded, Mary O’Donnell, 50, was sitting on her porch watching police. When officers went inside her home, they reported seeing blood everywhere.

Police said O’Donnell slit Sappie’s throat and stomach.

She told the officers that she was with Sappie, but didn’t know what happened to him, the complaint said.

Sappie’s neighbor, Mary Carter, said, “That's my buddy. I love him to death. What happened to him never should have happened.”

Channel 11’s Cara Sapida reported that Sappie and O’Donnell have been dating for several years.

Police said they have been called to the home in the past for fighting.

O’Donnell is in the Allegheny County Jail, charged with attempted homicide.

The incident remains under investigation.
