GLASSPORT, Pa. — A person stabbed in the stomach in Glassport Thursday morning is listed in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.

Investigators said the stabbing happened around 9 a.m. on Washington Boulevard.

The victim, who was only identified as a 47-year-old man, had to be flown to Pittsburgh for treatment.

Channel 11's Brandon Hudson reported that police and K-9 officers searched the area for a suspect. As of noon, one person was taken into custody.

Dianne Moffitt told Hudson she did not recognize the suspect taken into custody but did speak highly of her neighbor, the victim.

“He's a real nice person,” she said. “He'll do anything for you."

Late Thursday evening, police identified the suspect as Wayne Cardiff. Authorities said Cardiff allegedly stabbed his girlfriend’s stepfather after a fight outside his home on Washington Boulevard.

Court documents showed that Cardiff said the victim started hitting him first.

Police said though the victim is listed in critical condition, they expect him to survive.

Meanwhile, Cardiff is in the Allegheny County Jail charged with attempted murder.
